“One summer a few years back I took a contract job as a Coordinator for a festival production and had gotten paid a nice little chunk of change. So I did what any normally ‘poor’ bloke would do - immediately went out on a shopping spree and promptly spent it all! (I had buyer’s remorse for sure, but I looked damn good!) After the initial buzz wore off though, I got the calendar out, gulped & started sweating, counting the days until my next paycheck, realizing I’d forgotten to pay a few bills… I could hear my Mom’s voice in the back of my mind, telling me I needed to start saving for my future yadda yadda. And with that calendar in my hand, this song came to me and I started scribbling it all down across the pages. It’s a light-hearted song that makes fun of myself and my relationship to money.
Proud to say that we have a much better ‘understanding’ now, and that I even have a tax-free savings account! (Made my Mama proud!) A very cool idea we had was to have her “on the phone” with me at the end – a real full circle moment and super fun!”

CHORUS
Here I am…. now my friends
Livin’ paycheck to paycheck once again
VERSE 1
Don’t know where my money goes, well maybe it’s when I bought them clothes
Those shoes, those hats, those socks and underwear?
I say I’m going to save it for a rainy day but it’s raining every day
So I might as well go out and spend!
CHORUS
VERSE 2
So yes I pay my bills get all caught up and then I feel
As though I am the richest girl upon this earth.
Until those extra bills left over start to catch on fire
Burning holes in my pockets and my purse!
BRIDGE
Now they say that money… was meant to be spent
But I only wish I knew…. where it went!
SOLO
VERSE 3
My mama says "Hey learn from me
And put some away every pay and get yourself an RRSP!"
Well I might do that when I’ve got some to spare
As for right now I just don’t care about saving my money!
CHORUS x 2
Can’t you see?
I’m livin for me!
Happiness is free!

Named 'Vocalist of the Year' at the 2014 Vancouver Island Music Awards and nominated for 'Best Live Act' two years
consecutively, Brodie Dawson definitely delivers!
Brodie calls her style a mix of 'soulful bluesy folk' with a gospel funk, twist of pop and a twang of old-school country.
It’s her voice that jumps out at you…as soon as she sings her first note you're hooked!
