Skip a Beat

by Brodie Dawson

/

about

“This song was inspired by a friend of mine who ended up meeting the most incredible guy, but he was quite a bit younger than she was. She was telling me how amazing things were going and how he was basically perfect for her in every way and wanted to just free-fall into love, but reason and reality just kept stopping her. They made the heartbreaking choice to go their separate ways," says Dawson.

"I knew I wanted a video for this song and didn't have the budget so decided to just go for it and film it myself, even though I didn’t have any pro gear. I thought I’d simply try and make it look authentic. Despite not having high tech gear, I'm so proud with how it turned out. And what made it extra special was that my friend who was the predominant inspiration for the song is starring in the video. A real full circle moment.”

The official video will be dropping on Friday, October 8th. The video was filmed, directed, edited and produced by Brodie, using only the camera on her phone, and her laptop and will premiere on her Youtube Channel www.youtube.com/channel/UCXNGymmvRteEluGTJ4L325w

lyrics

Skip a Beat

Verse
Sure you’re ready for this heart?
It runs wide and goes deep.
Can take you places that you’ve never been before
And if you’re ready it’s yours to keep

Sure you’re ready for this heart?
I like to wear it on my sleeve
It can take a while to finally settle down
But when it does it don’t wanna leave

Chorus
So you can’t play around, just like a night on the town,
Carefree whispers and talking so sweet
Cause when it comes to this heart
It might skip a beat

Verse
Are you ready for this love?
It’s loyal and fierce, big as the sky
Wild and free and don’t judge nobody
Sometimes it don’t make sense and you can’t ask why

Sure you’re ready for this love?
I’ll be your queen and you be my king
More solid than a big ole block of concrete
But soft and fragile as an angels wing

Chorus
So please stop messing around, cause it’ll only bring me down
Tread softly, if it’s not what you really mean
Cause when it comes to this love
You might have the key

Bridge
Ahhhh x 2

Are you ready for this heart?
Yeah this lovin I have for you is strong
Let’s just nevermind what they say
When it feels this good you know it can’t be wrong

Chours
So let’s just go to town with this big new love we’ve found
We can ride it out and see where this horse leads
Yeah we can try it out and we can just believe
That when it comes to this heart
It might skip a beat
Yeah when it comes to this love
It might be yours to keep
