Will I Ever

by Brodie Dawson

/

about

I wrote this the summer my husband and I separated. I was so lost, yet on the way to finding myself again. A beautiful couple I know on Hornby Island offered me their cabin for the weekend as a little writing retreat. So I packed up my dog, my guitar and my journal and spent the entire weekend at the ocean, thinking, crying, writing and playing..

The melody and chorus came first, and the rest flowed out from there. For the longest time it was more of a groove song than anything, and it only had one verse.

Cool note: I wrote the second verse the night before recording it in the studio in Nashville!

lyrics

Will I Ever – written by Brodie Lee Dawson 2015 IPI# 433927057

VERSE
Well you took me by surprise.
Pulled the wool over my eyes.
One hell of a disguise.
I told my secrets to a spy.

Now I know it wasn't wise.
How I fell for your lies.
Now it's time to realize.
No no more now I cry!

CHORUS
Will I ever trust again
I must again
Doublecrossed again
Will I ever trust again
I must again
Won't let it bring me down

Will I ever trust again
I must again
Doublecrossed again
Will I ever trust again
I must again
Won't let it bring me down down down down.
No-wee-oh!
Down down down. No.

VERSE
It was a shot across the bow
Something I could’ve done without
What the hell’s this all about?
Just filled my mind up with doubt

Well I think the time is now
Gonna close the curtain take a bow
Stand up and scream it loud
Ain’t gonna let fear win no-how

Brodie Dawson Courtenay, British Columbia

Named 'Vocalist of the Year' at the 2014 Vancouver Island Music Awards and nominated for 'Best Live Act' two years consecutively, Brodie Dawson definitely delivers!

Brodie calls her style a mix of 'soulful bluesy folk' with a gospel funk, twist of pop and a twang of old-school country.

It’s her voice that jumps out at you…as soon as she sings her first note you're hooked!
